Electrical Outlet Covers
Toddlers are a handful. That may very well be where the term terrible twos came from. They seem to get into
everything and as busy as their imaginations are, their hands are just as curious. For a parent trying to watch their little one it can
become a full-time job. There are certain things you can do to help you keep your baby safe and one of those is to use electrical outlet
covers.
Babies are very inquisitive and have absolutely no sense of right or wrong. Theyll pick anything up off the floor and
put it into their mouths. When they see an electrical outlet their little hands will wander and an accident can happen. With electrical
outlet covers the baby cant access the plug and there is little risk that anything amiss will happen.
When children take their first steps parents often go through the house moving any breakables within the childs
reach. If you dont already have electrical outlet covers in your home this is the ideal time to purchase and install them. The child will see
them as a standard part of the outlet and wont be tempted to try and pry them off.
There are several different styles and the prices vary according to design. For the most part when the child is small
youll only need the standard plastic covers. These electrical outlet covers resemble an electrical plug as they have two prongs on them. The
front is flat and in order to remove them you need to get a fingernail behind them and pull forward. Even when a little one wraps his or her
entire hand around this type of outlet cover its very unlikely that it will dislodge.
Another type is a bit more complicated and is actually designed for older children. When a child reaches three or
four-years-old they are usually capable of removing the small plastic outlet covers. You should of course explain to your youngster the
danger of electricity but also be mindful of the fact that their curiosity may overwhelm your warnings. This is when youll want to install
the larger cover. These types of electrical outlet covers shield the entire outlet and have a lock on them. Even if a toddler were to spend
hours trying to remove them, its highly unlikely that they would be able to.
Accidents happen every day because a child comes in contact with electricity in their own home. Installing electrical
outlet covers costs just a few dollars and can be done within a few minutes yet they can be the difference between life and death for your
little one.
